Is the intro class really free?

Yes. The intro class costs nothing and there is no card and no contract. You reserve a spot, show up, train, and decide afterwards.

What should I wear to my first class?

A t-shirt and shorts or leggings, with no zippers or pockets. We provide the mats and everything else you need for the intro class.

Do I need any experience?

No. The intro class is built for people who have never trained. You can also sit and watch a full class before stepping on the mat.

How old do you have to be?

We train kids from age 4, youth from 8 to 13, and teens from 14 up train in the adult classes.

Where is G13 BJJ Colorado?

What makes your mats different?

The academy is built on a judo subfloor, a floating platform under the mats that absorbs impact. Most academies place mats directly on a concrete slab.

Show up in a t-shirt

T-shirt and shorts or leggings, nothing with zippers or pockets. We have everything else. Arrive fifteen minutes early.

Train, or just watch

Step on and try it, or sit on the side and see a full class first. Both are completely normal here.

What is under the mats

Most gyms roll mats onto concrete. We built a floor first.

G13 Colorado sits on a judo subfloor: a floating platform under the mats that absorbs impact instead of sending it into your joints. You feel the difference the first time you get taken down, and you really feel it the next morning.

Mike Barthlow

Co-Owner · Brown Belt

Mike came to jiu-jitsu from Division One college athletics and a career as a Marine officer. He is a brown belt, and he won the Masters 5 Open Class world title as a blue belt. He and Lori built a school around its community once before, and they are doing it again here. He is on the mat for every intro class, so if you show up, you meet him.

Kadu is our featured black belt athlete, and he is G13. He came up inside the same system this room is built on, not from outside it. Having that level of jiu-jitsu on the mat raises the standard for everyone who trains here, from the first class on.
