Warrior Mindset Coaching for BJJ™

Train your mind.Trust your game.Perform under pressure.

You drill the techniques. You put in the rounds. You condition your body. But are you training your mind for the moment it matters?

Your technique is only part of your game

Jiu-Jitsu asks for more than physical skill.

On the mat you have to do all of this at once, usually while exhausted.

Think while you are tired.

Stay composed when you are uncomfortable.

Make decisions under pressure.

Recover when the match is not going your way.

Trust what you have trained when the nerves hit.

Come back mentally after a loss, a mistake, or a setback.

Those are skills too. Warrior Mindset Coaching helps you deliberately train them.

The warrior mindset

Six things a referee could signal without saying a word.

Under pressure nobody has room for a paragraph. These are the six skills the coaching trains, and they work the same way: you recognize the signal, and you know what to do next. Practical tools for training, before competition, between matches, and when adversity shows up.

Confidence

Build confidence from preparation instead of depending on results.

Focus

Learn where to put your attention before and during a roll or match.

Composure

Control your response when adrenaline and pressure rise.

Reset

Recover quickly after a mistake, bad position, lost point, or difficult round.

Trust

Stop overthinking and allow your training to take over.

Resilience

Learn how to respond to losses, plateaus, setbacks, and difficult training days.

You train technique

Now train the person using it.

Mental performance coaching is not motivational hype. It is training. Athletes learn to recognize what is happening mentally, use a specific tool to regain control, and point attention at the next action.

Don't mess this up.
What do I need to do right now?
I can't lose.
What can I control?
That mistake just cost me the match.
Recognize. Regroup. Refocus.

The goal is not to eliminate pressure.

It is to know what to do when pressure shows up.

The game plan

Tools athletes can actually use.

Named, rehearsable, and small enough to hold in your head while somebody is trying to pass your guard.

Warrior word sets

Cue

Short performance cues that point the brain at the action you want, instead of the mistake you are afraid of.

Breathe. Pressure. Move.
Calm. Attack. Finish.
Strong. Patient. Go.

Mental choreography™

Rehearsal

Rehearse the opening moments, the positions, your responses, and the flow of the match before you step onto the mat, so the first exchange is not the first time you have seen it.

The 3 R’s reset system™

Recovery

A simple system for getting attention back where it belongs after a mistake or an unexpected moment.

01Recognize
02Regroup
03Refocus

Controlled breathing

Regulate

Regulate activation before a match, and get composure back when the intensity climbs mid-round.

Process goals

Aim

Move attention off the outcome and onto specific actions you actually control, which is the only place effort ever pays.

Competition mindset

Routine

A mental routine for warming up, stepping onto the mat, competing, resetting between matches, and reflecting afterwards.

Who it is for

Anyone who steps on the mat and brings their head with them.

Youth athletes

Build confidence, emotional control, focus, and healthy responses to mistakes and competition.

Teen athletes

Develop independence, self-belief, concentration, resilience, and tools for managing rising competitive expectations.

Adult practitioners

Stop letting comparison, frustration, nerves, or overthinking interfere with training.

Competitors

Build a repeatable mental preparation system for camps, tournament day, individual matches, and recovery between rounds.

You do not have to compete to train your mindset.

Jiu-jitsu tests confidence, patience, discipline, identity, frustration tolerance, and perseverance every single time you step on the mat. Those skills matter whether you are preparing for Worlds or walking into your first class.

Coaching options

Three ways to work together.

Every one of these starts with a conversation, not a checkout. Tell Lori what is going on and she will tell you which of the three fits, or that none of them do.

The Mind Over Athlete approach

Mental skills should be trained before they are needed.

Athletes rehearse these tools during everyday training, so they are available when the pressure climbs. The work is not about building fearless athletes. It is about athletes who know what to do with nerves, uncertainty, mistakes, and adversity. That is the warrior mindset.

Founder, Mind Over Athlete™

Lori Barthlow is a mental performance coach, former collegiate All-American gymnast, former gymnastics judge, coach, author, and co-owner of G13 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Colorado.

Her athletic and coaching career gave her a specific view of one problem: an athlete who physically has everything needed to perform, and whose own thoughts are standing between them and it.

Through Mind Over Athlete™, she teaches practical mental skills that build confidence, focus, composure, resilience, and performance under pressure.

Train your mind with the same intention you train your body.
